Ridgely Volunteer Fire Department to Hold Groundbreaking for New Station
On Saturday, February 13th 2016, the Ridgely Volunteer Fire Department, Inc. is holding a groundbreaking ceremony at 10am to celebrate the start of construction for their new fire station. The public is invited to attend this event, which will take place at 101 Sunset Boulevard in Ridgely.
The Ridgely Volunteer Fire Department has provided Fire, Rescue, and EMS service for the past 85 years from their current station at 8 West 1st Street. In 1995, realizing that they would someday need more space to accommodate the growing size of equipment, number of calls, and needs of the community, the department took a proactive approach and purchased a 4.16 acre lot on Sunset Avenue that would eventually serve as the location for the new station.
The new 19,875 square foot station will consist of six drive-through bays, living facilities, offices, and a training/meeting room that will allow the department to provide the best fire, rescue, and EMS services to the community. The department is comprised of 57 community members and responds to approximately 250 fire or rescue calls annually.
The station will also include an “Honor Walk,” a prominent walkway constructed of engraved bricks that can be purchased to honor a person or business. Funds raised from the sale of engraved bricks directly support the construction of the new building. Engraved bricks will be available for purchase at the groundbreaking event and are also available online at
