Daytime Working Structure Fire
Tuesday, July 15, 2008
-

On 7/15/08 at 1132hrs Box 6-1 was struck for a Structure Fire, alerting Stations 600 (Greensboro), 700 (Goldsboro), and 400.

PM 692 went on location with a 30x40 detached garage with a working structure fire.  At the 10min mark Engine 401 was the only piece of Suppression equipment responding, (4 w/ 419).  The Fire was reported trough the roof by PM692, and this prompted 615 (Chief House) who was not on location to have the second alarm struck.

Engine 401 arrived dropping a 4” LDH at the hydrant, stretched a 1 ¾ attack line to side “C” of the house and to start a defensive operation on the well evolved garage.   Officer 419 (Capt Baker) assumed Academy Ave Command.  Crews were able to keep the fire knocked back to protect the house.  A 2 ½ attack line was stretched by the crew from PM692 and also placed in service.

Numerous explosions were audible from inside the garage, and shortly after arrival of Engine 401 a total roof collapse occurred.  As second alarm equipment started to arrive the crew from Engine 401 took a much needed break, and went to Rehab.  Captain Baker maintained Command of the incident and the State Fire Marshall was called to the scene to investigate cause and origin.

 Units Responded: Engine 401 (4 w/ 419), Chief 4 (2 w/ 417)
